the American Heart Association, Maryland Affiliate, Inc.
The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association and any fees charged for such a course do not represent income to the Association.

Prerequisite
  • Student must be an AHA CPR Instructor

  • (BLS or Heatsaver level) 
and one of the following:
  • Health Professional (EMS, RN, LPN, MD, DO, DDS)
  • Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Recognized FACTS Instructor or

  • American Red Cross First Aid Instructor
  • Completed AHA Heartsaver First Aid Provider Course, including the environmental module
There is no grandfathering. Every instructor who plans to teach the AHA Heartsaver First Aid Course must attend a Heartsaver First Aid Instructor Course.
Requirements 
  • Instructor Manual for Basic Life Support
  • Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED student manual
  • Heartsaver First Aid Instructor's Manual
  • Candidates must participate in all aspects of the orientation, including successful skills demonstration.
  • Candidates must achieve 90% or better on the provider post-exam.


General Course Information


Attendees
Heartsver First Aid  Instructor  is open to current AHA BLS Instructors  who are over the age of 16.
Faculty
All instructors are approved by the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Department of Emergency Health Services.
Continuing Education Hours
These continuing education activity is approved by UMBC, an organization accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS).
Registration
Early registration is encouraged to ensure space availability. Class size is limited to 20 students priority is given to UMBC-CTC BLS instructors.
Registration Fee
UMBC-CTC Instructors need only purchase the Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED student manual and Heartsaver First Aid Instructor's Manual

Cancellations/Refunds
All cancellations and request for refunds must be made in writing at least three (3) weeks prior to the course start date. 

A $45.00 withdrawal fee will be charged. All tuition will be forfeited after that date. Students may transfer their registration one time. There is a $10.00 processing fee for this transfer.

A $45.00 fee will be charged for any returned check.

UMBC reserves the right to cancel any course due to insufficient enrollment. In the event of cancellation tuition will be refunded or transferred to another course date at UMBC's expense.

Lodging Information
A wide variety of hotels are located near Baltimore-Washington International Airport and are convenient to the UMBC campus. Several hotels in the area offer weekly rates. Check out our web site for a current listing of hotels in the area.
