| Dr.
Tracy L. Smith-Cumberland,
received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park
in Community and Public Health. Over the past decade she has been
lecturing, researching, and publishing in thanatology. She is certified
in thanatology by the Association of Death Education and Counseling.
Dr. Smith-Cumberland has been
a part of the Department of Emergency Health Services faculty
at UMBC since 1993, and has been teaching the Death and Dying
courses since their inception in 1997.
During the last 15 years,
she has worked as a physician assistant in surgery. She has also
served as a forensic investigator and as a Critical Incident Stress
Team Member.
