What is AMLS?
Advanced
Medical Life Support (AMLS) is a new program developed and sponsored by
the National Association of EMT (NAEMT). AMLS offers an advanced level
and practical approach to addressing adult medical emergencies. The
curriculum has been reviewed by the National Association of EMS
Physicians and NAEMT. Each segment of the course and textbook moves
from assessment procedures to field diagnosis and management of
treatable causes, by offering realistic methods practiced by
experienced pre-hospital emergency medical providers.

Topic Outline
The
AMLS course covers didactic and practical information during the two
day course. It concentrates on the following topics:
- assessment
- airway
management
- oxygenation
and ventilation
- venous
access
- medication
administration
- shock
- dyspnea
- chest
pain
- altered
neurological status
- acute
abdominal pain
- gastrointestinal
bleeding
- seizures
- syncope
- headache
- nausea
and vomiting

Attendees
The
Advanced Medical Life Support Program is open to all providers. ALS
providers can earn a certificate of completion. BLS providers will
receive CEUs.

Faculty
All
instructors are approved by the University of Maryland Baltimore
County, Department of Emergency Health Services.

Continuing Education Hours
This
continuing education activity is approved by UMBC, an organization
accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency
Medical Services (CECBEMS) for 16 CEUs.

Registration
Early
registration is encouraged to ensure space availability. Class size is
limited to 30 students.
|
Tuition
Tuition
for the course is $175.00 per person.
|
Book
The Advanced
Medical Life Support textbook, published by Brady is required.
The textbook is encluded with the tuition. There is no tuition
reduction for those who already own or are borrowing a book from
another source.

Cancellations/Refunds
All
cancellations and request for refunds must be made in writing at least
two weeks prior to the course start date. A $45.00 withdrawal fee will
be charged. All tuition will be forfeited after that date.
A $45.00 fee
will be charged for any returned check.
UMBC reserves
the right to cancel any course due to insufficient enrollment. In the
event of cancellation tuition will be refunded or transferred to
another course date at UMBC's expense.

Lodging Information
A wide
variety of hotels are located near Baltimore-Washington International
Airport and are convenient to the UMBC campus. Several hotels in the
area offer weekly rates. Check out our web site for a current listing
